Description
General John Bidwell began building this house for the love of his life, Annie, in 1865. The mansion, built on 26,000 acres and called Rancho Arroyo, boasted 26 rooms complete with modern plumbing, gas lighting and water systems. Eventually the Bidwell's deeded over the mansion and acreage to California State University, Chico and also deeded over 2,238 acres to become Bidwell Park.

Thanks Craig for the comment. I love your one mile photo with the red reflection in the water.

Love your description, Abram! I remember when the mansion was completely covered with a huge "bubble" of plastic when it was renovated... that was MANY years ago!! I used to find old bottles and cow horns in the dirt of my childhood home on Oleander Ave -- once part of the Rancho. Good memories, and great photograph!! :) F/V
