Artist's Description
The Esplanade was planned out by Chicos founder, General John Bidwell in the late 1880s. Originally, the central street was for the horse traffic and the side streets were for pedestrians and bicycles. The majestic towering trees that turn brilliant colors in the fall, along with stately old mansions (including Bidwell Mansion) add to the beauty and grandeur along this grand boulevard.

Abram, I grew up on Oleander in the 1300 block, one block east of the Esplanade. When I was growing up, Sounds By Dave was Hill's Variety and the business on the corner of the same block (Esplanade at 3rd Ave) was Burnes Market. You may be a bit young to remember the Sacramento Northern tracks that used to run through the center of town on Main Street, then on up the east side of the Esplanade. The bike path that crosses Lindo Channel is the old railroad bridge... at least it is serving a great purpose now!! I always hoped the tracks would remain and become the basis for a light rail or trolley from the town to the airport :)) Your image here is very nice and shows the beauty of the Esplanade in autumn. Great Job!!! :) F/V
